Sewedo Whenu bows out of Lagos Civil service

The Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja on Friday October 28, 2022 celebrated  Sewedo Oluseyi Whenu, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs as he retires from active public service.

The ceremony was held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa Ikeja and  reception follows at High Point Event Centre,  Agidingbi, Ikeja.

The event was attended by dignitaries, public servants, families and friends.

Sewedo, who was born into the Whenu family on the 30th of October,1962 began his early education at Christ Apostolic Church Primary School, Agege from 1966 -1972.

 Thereafter, he proceeded to Lagos African Church Grammar School, Agege, after which he attended Baptist High School, Ede, Osun State for Higher School Certificate, HSC 

 In 1980, he proceeded to the prestigious University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor Degree in Biology Education in 1984. 

He also proceeded to University of Ibadan and obtained a Masters degree in Education in 1986. 

Whenu commenced his working career in 1988 as a Lecturer 11 at Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Yaba before being absorbed and converted into the mainstream Civil Service as Principal Administrative Officer, Grade Level 12 in 1997. 

Between 1998 - 2002, he worked as a Budget Officer at the Plans, Programmes and Budget Bureau, Central Projects Coordination Department, Alausa, while between 2002 and 2009, he was Director, Finance & Administration. 

However, his diligence and exemplary conduct in the service of Lagos State Government was crowned with glory as he was promoted to the post of Permanent Secretary and deployed to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development, Office of Sports in April, 2014.

In the course of his career, he attended several courses on Human Capital Development, leadership and team building, public finance and expenditure management to mention a few. 

Ha also served in various special assignments in different capacities, a professional member of the National Institute of Management, Chattered Institute of Personell Management, Nigerian Institute of Training and Development and Institute of Directors.

Being born into a Christian family and raised with Godly values, Mr. Whenu has been involved in Church activities in active capacities. 

 He is happily married to Evangelist Omobolanle Adejuwon Whenu and  blessed with children and grandchildren. His hobbies include reading, travelling, football and tennis.
