Lagos Public  Procurement Agency generates N1.9bn in one year

The Lagos Public Procurement Agency (PPA) has generated N1,918,940,775.81 in the last one year from registration of service providers, renewal of registration and administrative fee.

The Head of Service (HOS), Bode Agoro disclosed this on Tuesday at a ministerial news conference in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

A breakdown shows that the agency raked in N335,108,337.88 from registration of service providers; N330,749,419.29 from renewal of registration and N1,253,083,018.64 from administrative fee.

Agoro said as part of its efforts in facilitating the state government’s policy on the ease of doing business, the Agency maintained a database of all registered service providers doing business with the state government and those desiring to do so.

“Service providers are, therefore, expected to register and annually renew their registration with the Agency. Service providers can register for Goods, Works or Services with the Agency for them to be eligible for consideration for award of contracts by any Procuring Entity of the State.

“Between 29th May, 2023 and 30th April, 2024, the Agency registered a total of 1,141 service providers for goods, 1,320 for works and 1,357 for services.

“It is worthy to note that processing of the application for registration/renewal by service providers is done online. This means that the application and processing of registration/renewal can be done via the smart phone or the computer from the comfort of the homes or offices of service providers,” he explained.

Agoro added that with the leverage on technology, applications for registration/renewal by service providers were approved by the Agency within 48 hours, provided the applicants submit all their requirements to the Agency for registration/renewal promptly.

On staff housing and loans board, the HoS revealed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, upon his re-election in May 2023 increased the yearly subvention for housing loan facility from N100 million to a whopping sum of N1 billion.

He added that in the same vein, the governor also increased the yearly subvention for the car refurbishment loan facility to enable members of staff 

The Head of Service also said one of the performances of his office under the year under review was the recruitment of 4166 new officers in various cadres and were uploaded into the Oracle database and thereafter deployed to relevant ministries, department and agencies where their services would be highly required. 

"During the period under review, 4166 newly recruited officers in various cadres were uploaded into the Oracle database and thereafter, deployed to relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies(MDAs) where their services would be highly required.

He also reported that 24 senior public servants were elevated to the position of permanent secretaries, just as he said the accounting officers were drawn from the crop of seasoned, proficient and competent senior management officers across different cadres.

He also disclosed that since assumptions of Mr Governor into office, he has given official vehicles to newly appointed permanent secretaries, chairmen and members of statutory commissions and heads of Ministerial agencies in the state.
