LASTVEB mulls becoming the national leader in the provision of excellent and equitable Technical and Vocational training in Nigeria

The Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board has reiterated its commitment to become the national leader in the provision of excellent and equitable technical and Vocational training in the country.

Speaking at the annual management retreat with the theme "Technical and Vocational Training: Key to sustainable development" Programme, held in Novatel Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, on Thursday, the Executive Secretary of LASTVEB, Ms Moronke Azeez, told the participants to remain focused for the agency to achieve its goal of becoming the national leader in providing excellent and equitable technical and Vocational training in Nigeria 

She maintained that though the agency had achieved extensively compared to where the agency was in some years back to where they are presently, especially when Technical Colleges were being jettisoned by workers and citizens that considered technical colleges as dumpsites for failures, but charges all participants who are the  management team of the agency to always remain focused and have a sense of dedication to make the students excel as far as technical and vocational education is concerned.

“The Lagos State Government, through LASTVEB, is dedicated to providing industry responsible and gender-inclusive national technical education in Nigeria that not only create employment opportunities but also enable self-employment,” Azeez said.

She, however, revealed that the agency had developed various work plan for the workers to make LASTVEB  become the national leader in the provision of excellent and equitable technical and Vocational training in the country.

Azeez expressed gratitude to the participants, especially those that have been with the agency in the past few years and had contributed immensely to the transformational training, just as she admonished them not to  relent in their efforts at making the agency to be a credible leading producer of technical and vocational education in the country.

“We have constantly received feedback that our past graduates are excelling, whether as self-employed individuals or in gainful employment with various organisations.

“Participants should continue to add achievements and remain focused and  should also be proud of our achievements. Recently, four of our Technical colleges in the state have been chosen to be part of the Federal Government' s CNG conversion Centers, which is a plus for us. That means we are moving forward,” she said.

Significant numbers of participants at the retreat recounted many significant positive changes that transpired during the past few years ranging from conducive learning environments, continuous regular professional training, training under conducive  environment, increased number of organizations, states willing to partner the agency and many others. 

Facilitators also presented papers at the event. One of the facilitators and former Permanent Secretary, Mr Abiodun Bamgboye, spoke on excellent leadership and service.

He urged participants to always communicate with their workers and organize for feedback from them,  though admitted that there would be always political interference,  which should not distract them from doing their work but urged them to be creative and proactive, just as he advised them not to restrict change, or else would be consumed.
