The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has donated a new ambulance to Mainland Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, significantly strengthening the hospital’s ability to manage infectious disease outbreaks and enhance emergency responses.

For over a decade, Mainland Hospital had operated without a functional ambulance, a limitation that severely affected the speed and quality of patient referrals and emergency evacuations. The newly donated ambulance is now a game changer, enabling swift mobility for critical cases and improving the hospital’s efficiency during emergencies.

Speaking at the donation event on Friday, the Medical Director/CEO of Mainland Hospital, Dr. Adejumo Adedeji Olusola, described the donation as a major breakthrough for the hospital.

“Today we received an ambulance from Aliko Dangote Foundation to support our response activities in Lagos. Aliko Dangote Foundation has taken care of our biggest headache; in fact, it is a game changer for us, so we can do a lot of things now that we couldn’t do before,” he said.

Dr. Olusola also expressed deep gratitude to Mr. Aliko Dangote, highlighting how the hospital had lacked a functional ambulance for about 10 years.

“We are really grateful, and our sincere gratitude goes to Mr. Aliko Dangote. Now we have one we can boast of, thanks to Mr. Dangote,” he added.

On behalf of ADF, Dr. Francis Aminu, Director of Health and Nutrition, emphasized the foundation’s unwavering commitment to strengthening healthcare in Nigeria.

“We are happy to help. The foundation is there to assist, especially in areas of health. They say health is wealth, so the foundation is there to fill the gaps found and through this donation initiative, this is us showing our commitment,” Dr. Aminu said.

He further stated, “What we do at ADF isn’t just charity, it’s a duty. Every Nigerian life is valuable, and health is the foundation on which all other aspirations are built. No Nigerian should be left behind due to lack of access to essential health resources.”

The Aliko Dangote Foundation has long been a leading force in Nigeria’s health sector, previously supporting efforts against malnutrition, polio, and disease control during pandemics. This donation to Mainland Hospital is one of its many initiatives aimed at building a stronger, more resilient healthcare system across the country
